Pit & Fissure Sealants

Requirements

A dental assistant registered with the Board as an RDA may apply pit and fissure sealants. A sealant may be adjusted with a slow speed hand piece. All dental assistants are prohibited from using a high speed hand piece inside the mouth.

To utilize the expanded duty an RDA must show proof of "hands-on" training which can be obtained through any one of the following methods:

  1.   Successful completion of a Board approved dental assisting program.

  2.   A Board approved continuing education course that includes a hands-on component, or

  3.  The RDA provides proof of a credential issued by another state for the application of pit and fissure sealants and the training was substantially equivalent to ND requirements.

Registered Dental Assistants who submit proof of a "hands on" pit and fissure sealant training will receive an endorsement on the registration card which provides verification of board approved training. If you have received and submitted proof of training/education, and the endorsement is not seen on the registration card, please notify the Board.
